Willa Schoeman Diamond Investments

General information

Having started working with diamonds in 1975, Willa Schoeman formed Tirsa Diamonds (PTY) Ltd and entered the world of international business. Over the years, Willa built up a client base in 35 countries - having travelled to as many countries worldwide.

During the early years, he studied at UNISA (the University Of South Africa) and completing these studies in subjects that added value to his diamond business: accounting aspects of investments, investment analysis, financing, market research, strategic aspects of investments, marketing, advanced accounting.

In 1978, the Rapaport Diamond Report - a weekly recommended international wholesale price list for diamonds, was established. This established an international standard pricing diamonds in US$ per carat for different categories. This report has served as the diamond price guideline thus making diamonds, as with gold, a US$ based commodity.

In practical terms, this means that the price for a certain category diamond will be quoted in US$ per carat, and then calculated in that country’s local currency according to the exchange rate.

Like all accredited professionals, Willa Schoeman applies the weekly price list which set the bechmark for prices of polished diamonds world-wide.

Willa Schoeman is a graduate of the GIA (Gemological Institute Of America). He completed a two year comprehensive course focusing on all aspects of grading polished diamonds.

Willa has given talks on various facets of diamonds on radio, TV and at many breakfast meetings as well as ladies clubs. He has written numerous articles for various Afrikaans and English newspapers such as the Sunday Times. For much of his career, Willa has helped young entrepreneurs to get a start in the diamond industry.
