Thaba Lodge

General information

A mere two and a half hours’ drive from Johannesburg, Thaba lodge is a 5 star self‐catering luxury lodge situated in the malaria free Black Rhino Reserve in the wilderness area of the Pilanesberg Game Reserve. A mere 20 minutes’ drive from Sun City, and the Bakubung Gate, affords guests the opportunity to visit these public places of interest, while no members of the general public are permitted to self‐drive in the wilderness area, thus providing guests the added privacy and exclusivity. Black Rhino guests are permitted in open ranger‐driven vehicles into the main park.

Thatched Thaba Lodge sleeps 10 people in 5 beautifully designed and fitted individual air-conditioned suites. Two of the suites are inter‐leading to cater for families with small children. No expense has been spared in providing superior quality cotton linen and other furnishings. Each suite has its own tea and coffee making facility, a bar fridge and safe. A double shower and double hand basins complement the beautiful bath in the en‐suite bathrooms.

The enormous double volume main entertainment area consists of a fully fitted open plan kitchen with ample fridge and freezer space, scullery with dishwasher, dining area, casual lounge with flat screen TV (DSTV), reading lounge with library, pub (which guests self stock) with an ice making machine, and a wonderful veranda with a gas Weber braai and spectacular views of the mountain after which it is named. Beautiful fireplaces allow for cozy winter evenings.

The lodge has a splash pool and sun deck, boma and braai area, an elevated viewing deck, and is surrounded by a non‐intrusive electrified fence to keep guests safe from the big 5 which are regularly spotted in the area. For the energetic guests, a cycling machine and a treadmill are provided. There is cell phone coverage at the lodge.

Self‐catering allows guests to create their own meals with ingredients of their choice, and the lodge is serviced by 2 maids who are available to help as needed. The lodge is managed by Bret and Juanita, both qualified game rangers, who live on site, and are there to assist as necessary, and to take guests on game drives in an open vehicle twice a day, included in the daily rate.
