Bakara is an engineering company focussing mainly on the maintenance of rail engineering assets and re-engineering of related components.

Bakara’s clients currently include the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) and Anglo American Platinum Mines who own and manage their own rolling stock and rail infrastructure, both underground and on surface.

Bakara is black-woman owned organization, with B-BBEE Level 1 score . The staff of Bakara collectively has over 100 man-years experience in Rail Engineering, and hence Bakara prides itself as a young but competent company of Rail Specialists, having only been established in 2010.

Bakara has strategic alliances with various companies, like Delba Electrical (Pty) Ltd, and Acton Repair Services (Pty) Ltd who are also sub-contracted to repair traction motors and motor generators/alternators respectively. Bakara’s alliance with Bombardier lended it inside the Bombardier Africa Alliance which is aimed at offering Signaling Technology support to South Africa and the entire continent. This consortium has since been appointed as the Preferred Bidder for the Durban Re-Signaling Contract.
