Oakhurst Farm Cottages

The Forge at Oakhurst a top retreat for anyone looking for a little piece and quiet, with appealing settings both inside and out. This 150 year old stone cottage was one of the first building to be built at Oakhurst and today is the main bedroom, with thick stone walls and exposed timber beams.
Our cottages have been a part of Oakhurst for the past 30 years, they were originally built for Oakhurst’s farmhands, who in the past year have obtained new housing. The 5 cottages have now been authentically restored, with every possible attention to detail.
In true Oakhurst tradition, we’ve kept a little of the history intact by naming the cottages after their original inhabitants. Kween’s Kaya, Awies Attic, Leenies Lair, Hans’s Hollow and Nick’s Nook are set along the edge of a section of forest, intersected with a gurgling stream that flows during the rainy periods.

Oakhurst Farm Cottages is located in the farming hamlet of Hoekwil, set in South Africa’s renowned Garden Route. Part of an extensive private garden on the large Oakhurst farm, it is just 15 minutes away from the beautiful village of Wilderness, only half an hour from Knysna and a picturesque 25 minute coastal drive from George and it’s major airport. The cottage is situated on the edge of a paddock, overlooking a river which meanders through 200 hectares of private forest, adjoining the Wilderness National Park.

The stone cottage at Oakhurst is situated on a beautiful farm in the Hoekwil area of South Africa. It is surrounded by a mature garden, impressive trees and a sweeping lawn. A family of five can easily be accommodated. There is a lounge, fully equipped kitchen and dining room with a large open fireplace and a plentiful stock of firewood.

The main bedroom has a double bed. The other beds are singles located in the loft. Carefully selected Percale cotton bedding and huge wrap around bath towels are provided. A rustic but classic atmosphere has been created with one of the windows no more than a heavy duty canvas blind creating an ‘outdoor living room.’

The unique bathroom has an open shower overlooking the river and forest.The cottage is serviced daily on request. Fresh free range eggs and milk from our own dairy and hen house are provided on request.

Your hosts, Jake and Claire live in the Old House, far enough away to ensure your privacy, but close enough to assist with any requests.
