General information

Situated half way between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth just north of the Garden Route makes Oudtshoorn readily accessible by road and air (George Airport just 65km away).

Known as the Ostrich Capital of the World, Oudtshoorn is the heart of the Klein Karoo and Route 62 and is home to many historical sandstone buildings and Feather Palaces dating back to the Feather Boom period, some of which are still accessible to the public.

Using Oudtshoorn as your base for exploring the Klein Karoo gives you easy access to all the restaurants, curio shops and other local businesses.

Apart from the well-known Cango Caves and Ostrich Show Farms, this picturesque town boasts a UNESCO world heritage site – the Swartberg – which incorporates the Succulent Karoo and Fynbos Floral Kingdom, the smallest but most diverse of the floral kingdoms. Also on show are the incredible redstone hills formed by the Enon conglomerate. Nestled between the Swartberg, Outeniqua and Kammanassie Mountain Ranges the area offers a multitude of passes, poorts and other scenic drives and hiking trails.
