General information

Since opening our doors 29 years ago, originally as LifeLine East London, we have provided lay counselling, crisis care and trauma support to over 418 000 people.

Our ultimate goal is to build resilience in individuals and our diverse communities through the provision of psycho-social support, training and community engagement.

Adults and children face numerous challenges in our world today and all too often a significant stress and trauma in their life exceeds their resources to cope with the situation. We help people to cope with the things that life throws at them. Through our Personal Growth and Communication Skills Courses and the provision of emotional support we increase their capacity to develop their emotional resilience.

Our outcome goals are centered on the understanding that emotional resilience can be taught, and that an adult and child is more likely to be resilient if they can:
- communicate
- solve problems
- manage feelings and impulses
- understand how other people are feeling, and
- establish trusting relationships;
and we strive to develop these skills through all our interventions.
