General information

South Africa's most highly qualified and experienced (40 years +) guitar teacher. Individual tuition given in Classical, Jazz, Rock etc to all ages (from 6 years old).

QUALIFICATIONS:
D Phil: Doctorate in music from NMMU.
M Mus: Master of Music (thesis on the history of the guitar) from Rhodes University.
B Mus: Bachelor of Music with guitar as main practical instrument from Rhodes University.
LTCL: Guitar teachers’ diploma from Trinity College of Music, London.
LRSM: Guitar performers’ diploma from Royal Schools of Music, London.
RULM: Guitar teachers’ diploma from Rhodes University.
D MeC: Diploma in guitar performance from Musica en Compostela, Santiago, Spain.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE:
Began teaching guitar at the Bob Fairweather School of Music in Johannesburg in 1966.
Music teacher in primary and high schools in the 1970s.
Part-time lecturer in guitar at Rhodes University and NMMU.
Lecturer and head of music at Port Elizabeth College of Education for 12 years.
Taught guitar from own studio for 40 years.

SYLLABUS:
Over the last 40 years I have developed my own Syllabi covering the various styles of playing but also incorporate Trinity College (Classical and Rock&Pop) and Rockschool.

OTHER EXPERIENCE:
Played classical, jazz and rock guitar on stage, radio and TV.
Played guitar in the orchestras of musical theatre productions for 30 years.
Adjudicated music competitions in both classical and light music.
Written radio programmes on guitar and guitarists for SABC and broadcast on national radio.
Guitar soloist with the East Cape Phil Orchestra (guitar concerto) and in their Pops concerts.
Music crit for the Evening Post and Herald for 12 years.

PAST STUDENTS:
Many of the guitar students who have studied at my studio are now making important contributions to music in this country and around the world. They include university music lecturers, music teachers at schools, sound engineers, members of successful bands, solo artists, teachers who have their own studios etc.
