The benefits of working at IDM
Social enterprise:
There is a worldwide trend towards moral capitalism and this is something our founder and CEO, Ian Wason, strongly believes in. When he started IDM in 2004 it was to help the South African consumers with their debt, but also make a profit and provide employment. To date IDM has helped over 12,000 South Africans solve their debt problems and has grown into a profitable and sustainable business with over 300 staff. By working at IDM you can sleep easily at night after a hard day’s work knowing that because of you, other families are sleeping easy in the homes you have saved for them.
Training:
Training is very important at IDM. We do numerous in house training, and bring in a lot of external trainers to help staff with ‘softer skills’ like ‘personal resilience’ and ‘time management’. New employees are provided with job shadowing and training in various areas of the company, in order to place the employee in the division, which best suits them. We also run a bursary for staff members where we will pay for external courses (Masters, diplomas, industry exams) to help them build their knowledge and CV.
Career Growth:
Career growth is particularly important if this is your first job. The IDM management team recognizes this, as it wasn’t that long ago since their first job! It is crucial to your career to put a solid foundation down in your first job, and we recommend at least a 3-year stint at IDM. At IDM we have a policy of moving employees between divisions, in order to ensure their skills will be best utilized and opportunity for career growth and promotion are optimized. IDM is also growing at a phenomenal speed, and with this provides huge opportunities to grow and gain management responsibility very quickly.

Entrepreneurial:
Ian Wason founded IDM when he was 26 years old, and the entrepreneurial spirit is ingrained in the Group. We are constantly starting new divisions and business and are always on the lookout for new ideas. We actually run a business plan competition every year, where employees write and submit a business plan to us and stand the chance of winning a R10,000 cash prize!
Fun:
The average age of our staff is around 25, with the management team being in their mid-30s. With young and dynamic surroundings like this, IDM is all about ‘working hard and playing hard.’ IDM encourages employees to stay after work on Friday evenings for drinks. Performance-based awards are held once a month in order to motivate employees to constantly here is a social club who organize events and a weekly 5 a side soccer team.
Working in the City:
IDM’s Manhattan style open plan offices are in the centre of Cape Town CBD, just a stones throw from all the bars and cafes of Long Street. Being in the CDB also makes it incredibly convenient for transport links with the Train station and the new MyCiti busses coming right past our door.
