General information

The word ‘Malt’ is synonymous with Beer, Whiskey and of course if you’re American it means Milkshakes.

The concept was born when the two founders Angelo Kellaris and Andrew Liassou were discussing what their next venture should be over a couple of whiskeys. The owners have been involved in hospitality industry for more than 20 years and have owned a News Café, Rhapsody’s, Toni’s Pizza, Wimpy and Trademarx Loftus to name a few.

Malt Bar & Grill has a huge variety of ‘Malts’ and boasts over 50 different bottled beers as well as 20 draught beers on tap. Their current whiskey selection stands at 50 with new ones being continually introduced. There is also a selection of whiskies that can be bought by the bottle and kept in a ‘bottle keep’ for future enjoyment. In keeping with the theme, Malt also has more than 20 different flavours of milkshakes available.

The menu also boasts a variety of different dishes with the focus being on grills, homemade burgers and delicious thin based wood burning pizza. Waffles is another one of their specialities and will appease even the sweetest tooth. They open for breakfast at 9am and stay open till late in the evening. The cocktail menu has some authentic Mojitos (Ale & Strawberry/ Malt Lager) as well as some really amazing Jam Jars and the must try Watermelon Daiquiri! The wine list was also carefully chosen, each and every wine was tasted and picked for its unique characteristics.

The décor is stylish yet it has that element of craft which make you immediately feel comfortable and at home in the warmness of your surroundings. The lighting is soft and the boldness of the sleeper-wood and copper bar with yellow neon lighting sets it apart from any other bar or grill in the country. Malt also has three fireplaces and electric drop down awnings which make it the perfect venue for winter. It has 2 upstairs dining areas which can accommodate 12 people each or open up and become a bigger 22 seater function table. This is perfect facility for birthday parties or corporate get-togethers. Each room has its own Bluetooth speaker so guests can play their own music if they so wish.

Malt is first and foremost an amazing restaurant, added to that is the whiskies, craft beer, milkshakes, cocktails and amazing wines. Malt Bar & Grill is truly unique in its offerings and will soon become the hottest spot in Pretoria.
