MACHINE MOVING & ENGINEERING Company Information
General information
Established in 1973, MME specializes in the relocation and installation of all forms of machinery and equipment, both nationally within South Africa and beyond our borders into other parts of Africa. we have branches in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town.
With over 40 years of experience, we offer a fully comprehensive turnkey package, incorporating electrics, mechanicals, machine moving and transport services. We believe we can offer our clients an unparalleled service and pride ourselves on our in-house Mechanical Engineering expertise and Heavy Lift Division.
MME recognised the skills shortage in trained artisans in South Africa and established The Rigging Academy of South Africa in 2007, which has seen over 150 apprentices go through our training program and qualify as Red Seal Riggers. The academy also ensures that MME staff are trained according to legal and trade requirements.
We are members of the SPECIALIZED CARRIERS AND RIGGING ASSOCIATION, an American based organisation dedicated to upholding the highest standards of safety when handling abnormally heavy or large items.
MME is an industry leader in the field of rigging, transporting, lifting and positioning of abnormally large or heavy items of equipment. With our specialised equipment and highly experienced and qualified staff, we have systems to undertake lifts up to 450 tons and to work in confined areas, often inaccessible to cranes. international technicians and engineers have expressed complete satisfaction with our standards and equipment when MME partnered with multi-nationals on large projects.
-HYDRAULIC GANTRIES
MME owns some of the most modern and sophisticated lift-and-lock gantry systems in Africa, and boasts both 450-ton and 200-ton hydraulic gantries. these systems have been used for major projects, including the positioning of Rail Car Tipplers at the Ports of Saldanha and Richards Bay. Additionally, we are able to transport our gantries to other parts of Africa and have successfully completed projects on the continent.
-65 TON BOOM TRUCK
Our 65-ton boom truck provides a faster, safer and more cost effective method of moving large machines in confined spaces, and can be used in a crane of forklift configuration. it is easy to manoeuvre in confined areas (which are inaccessible to cranes) and can operate in buildings with low headroom.
-MECHANICAL SERVICES
Our in-house Mechanical Engineering Division undertakes the dismantling, re-erection and commissioning of all forms of machinery and equipment. Projects are planned and coordinated by skilled engineers, who in conjunction with supervisory staff, monitor and ensure that work is carried out in time, within budget and according to the agreed specifications, Specialist consultation with technicians familiar with equipment supplied from overseas is available to us, and these technicians have found our standards comparable with their own.
- COMPUTERISED EQUIPMENT
Based in KZN and operational nationally, our specialised fleet of air suspension vehicles is used for moving delicate computerised equipment. These vehicles are fitted with Hydraulic tailgates and have padded interiors for optimum protection.
-TORQUING & TENSIONING OF BOLTS
We have state-of-the-art Hydraulic equipment imported from the US, for the tensioning of the bolts up to 7500nm. Our range of equipment includes low-clearance tools for accessing bolts in confined locations. The system is compact and portable, enabling MME to work under the most challenging conditions.

The centre operates from the premises of MME KZN, with a satellite training facility opened in 2012 in Gauteng to accommodate further apprentices. All the equipment and machinery of the Machine Moving and Engineering Group is available to the Rigging Academy, which means that the academy is one of the best equipped training centres in South Africa in the field of Mechanical material handling and the associated fields. giving learners the opportunity to gain a formal qualification upon successful completion of a course the training centre offers various modular courses and being a DTTC, trade tests can also be performed.
